Mimiha Recreation Reserve is next to a tiny community of 5 homes at the end of Helena Bay. It has a more rugged beach that Teal Bay, which is the next bay along.

It's a DOC conservation area for endangered nesting birds, so dogs are not allowed in the reserve.

The entrance to the reserve is dominated by a huge pohutukawa tree, which would have been there long before any of the homes were built.

There is only a small parking area, but it's unlikely to be crowded, and you can park overnight if self-contained.
