NORTHLAND: KAURI COAST

Matakohe Holiday Park is located in a quiet rural environment, overlooking the river, and just a short distance from the Matakohe Kauri Museum.

On the last few days of winter, there weren't any other campers there when we visited. It was a fine sunny morning and we had a good look around before heading on to the Pouto Peninsula. 

The current owners are selling the campsite, and expect the new owners to have taken over by the time the summer holiday season gets underway.

The facilities were very nice and well maintained, and some of the powered sites had a great view over the river.

There were bobby calves grazing in the paddock next door. However, while they looked really cute now, they will have grown a lot by the time campers with children start to arrive.

Overall this would make a nice place to visit. It is quiet and peaceful while still being close to the museum and cafes.
