Rooster crowing early in the morning
The Puketapu Reserve is in a country location just a short drive out of Napier city. There is a small parking area with a really nice adventure playground if you're travelling with children.
We called in late one afternoon, looking for a place to park overnight. Another small van was already there - a young German couple who were travelling around New Zealand.
While it's not a large parking area, it has one of the best children's adventure playgrounds that we've seen. This is a prime location if you're travelling with children, but not quite so suitable otherwise.
We woke to the sound of cattle lowing from the farmland on the other side of the road, and also the rooster crowing right beside our van. The kids would enjoy that, but we weren't quite so ready to get up!
The toilet was well maintained.
