Port Ohope Reserve

We discovered the Port Ohope Recreation Reserve while exploring the Ohope Beach area. What a great location - a large park with mature trees, plenty of parking available on grass, and access to the beach. There is good fishing and a ramp for launching boats. And of course, council maintained public toilets.
We were there on a Saturday afternoon in late Autumn. It was a beautiful sunny day, although a little windy. However, there were very few people actually using the reserve. I imagine it would be quite busy in the summer holiday period.
Overnight parking is allowed for self-contained motor caravanners, and this is an excellent location for that.
We've visited on two occassions now, and the first time overnight parking wasn't allowed, so it's great to see the local council changing it's policy on this.
You can also park overnight at the Maraetotara Reserve along the Ohope beachfront.
