Pahoia Domain is a lovely location with the parking area directly overlooking the beach. It is free to park overnight, with a limit of 3 vans at any one time, and a maximum of 2 nights stay.

Pahoia Domain facilities

Children's playgroundWe arrived on a weekday and there was only one other motorhome parked there. The tide was full in and we immediately decided that this would be where we stay for the night.

There is a clean toilet and a children's playground on one side of the parking area, and includes a nice grassed reserve for picnics, or for children to run around, on the other side. Mature trees enclose the area, separating it from the houses behind.

It had been raining heavily the night before and there was a lot of seaweed washed up on the beach, which you can see in the picture. I imagine that the beach would be clean sand normally.

The bay looks like it would be a good spot for fishing, which was confirmed by Jimmy and Irene in the other motorhome. They had been here several times previously, and sometimes bring an inflatable boat which he uses to go fishing.

The harbour is very shallow, making it a good location for catching flounder. All you need is a suitable spear, and to be there at the right time. However, being shallow, you are also likely to find stingray, so it may not be such a good location for swimming.

I imagine it could be quite busy in the weekends as it is only a short drive from Katikati, and is a great location for family picnics, especially over the summer holiday season. On a weekday in autumn, it's hard to beat.

We'd rate this as one of the most enjoyable locations of the many that are scattered around this harbour. Peaceful, secluded, sheltered, and right by the water. If you come prepared, you might catch a meal of fresh fish. We definitely plan to come back.
