The Arundel Reserve is at the northern end of Orewa beach and allows self-contained motor caravanners to park overnight directly overlooking the beach.

The carpark is not as large as the Orewa Reserve carpark, but it should be quieter as it is further back from the main road, and well away from the tourist activity in the town centre. This is a great location to go to sleep at night listening to the sound of the waves on the beach.

And, if you really miss the cafe scene, you can always try out the Walnut Cottage Cafe just a few minutes walk across the highway.

The council requires overnight parking between the arrows, but the bays aren't really long enough unless you park parallel to the kerb, which wouldn't leave room for more that 2 or 3 vans, depending on size. Backing in is always a possibility.

A decision has been made and no camping is allowed at this reserve or will be allowed in the future and this page needs to be updated to reflect this. Anyone found camping here could be subject to a large fine and the residents are calling enforcement officers to enforce the camping ban. Any vehicles not qualifying underneath the title "self-contained" are also banned and will be reported. Unfortunately, there have been significant problems with damage to native trees, nudity and abuse from campers and people living in their cars over the last year to the extent that the poor scout leader has had to barricade herself in with her scouts to avoid an abusive naked man showering in front of her young charges. I will be reporting this page to the Auckland City Council, as my elderly mum is a resident, so please ensure it is updated immediately and this site is removed from your recommendations for anything but qualifying vehicles. It is a quiet residential area and very popular with other residents of Orewa throughout the year so parking is at a minimum especially during summer months.

Yes, this was one of the Auckland Council's trial locations, and is no longer available for freedom camping. This may change when the council releases it's new Freedom Camping bylaw next year.

Hi there, we went to have a look at this spot last weekend and it says no camping allowed. Wonder if it has changed since you loaded this information?? Next time we're passing I will check again.
