Long Bay Regional Park is one of Auckland's gems - a long white sand beach just to the north of Auckland city, and with plenty of parking.

Of course, this is a very popular beach for Aucklanders, and it is well used all year round. However, when we arrived on a sunny Saturday in the late summer afternoon, we were still able to find a park for our motorhome.

We settled in and went for an evening walk along the beach, and again next morning. This is not a place to get away from it all, but it was enjoyable to see everyone else enjoying one of our excellent regional parks.

As well as the beach, there is a large grassed reserve, with covered barbeque area and public toilets.

The Auckland Council requires that you register and pay a small fee if staying overnight, which you can do online or over the phone. We tried using the phone, and ended up being directed to do it online anyway!

Go to https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/parks-recreation/stay-at-park/Pages/default.aspx to book online. You will need to set up an account with the Auckand Council if you don't already have one.

Other than that, we enjoyed our overnight stay. There aren't many places where motor caravanners can stay overnight close to Auckland city, and this is one of the best.
