Franz Josef Glacier town is also well known for its thermal pools, with both public and private pools available.

This was our one disaappointment while visiting Franz Josef - not with the quality of the pools, but rather because we were just too tired to drive from where we had parked for the night back into town to soak away all the aches and pains from a day that started with a 2 hour walk around Lake Matheson, and finished with a 90 minute walk to the glacier.

We should have stayed another night - but we were heading up the coast and the weather forecast didn't look great.

So we called in the next morning, only to find it closed. So, we had to be satisfied with taking what pictures we could, and the ringing endorsment of friends we met at the NZMCA parkover, who had just returned from the pools.
