The Kimberley Scenic Reserve is a very large reserve where freedom camping is allowed for self-contained motor caravanners.

This is a really nice location, with clean public toilets, and plenty of space for large vans, or a group of friends to meet up.

It was late in the afternoon when we arrived and there were only a few people in the reserve. I imagine it would be well used over the summer holiday season, and that there would still be plenty of room for everyone.

The Horowhenua District Council requires campers to take their rubbish with them and to leave no mess behind. The rubbish bins provided in the park should only be used by day visitors.

Also, a permit is required and must be displayed on your van. These are free, and can be obtained from the Councils Customer Service Centre.

There is no address given, but presumably it is at the council offices at 126-148 Oxford St in Levin. You could call them on 06 366-0999 just to be sure.
