Memorial Stone with a plaque
The rest area on State Highway 1, just before Mangaweka, is set back from the main road and includes a picnic table and rubbish bin.
There is a stone memorial recognising the challenging engineering required for this part of the state highway system between Mangaweka and Utiku.
This is a nice place to stop for a break, or even to park overnight if you are self-contained. There is likely to be a lot of road noise from passing traffic though.
