Makatote Viaduct Rest Area

There's a large rest area looking at the rail viaduct as it crosses State Highway 4. It's a convenient place to take a break and has room for large vans.
We stopped for a coffee break before continuing our journey on to Wanganui, Being along the main highway it is a little noisy, but you're well off the road and the rail bridge makes for an interesting view.
There is a memorial and a plaque describing the building of the viaduct and some of the challenges that the engineers faced
