The Waihi Falls is the first reserve set up in Hawkes Bay 1899. It's in a quiet, rural location about 40 km from Dannevirke.

Leave Dannevirke on Weber Road. Turn off into Oporae Road just before Weber and travel about 16 km of windy road to Waihi Falls road. It is tar-sealed most of the way, and is well sign-posted.

While this might put off some motor caravanners, the 20-minute drive along this road is well worth it!

Having arrived, you will want to hike down to the waterfall. The track is steep, but doable. Other tracks downstream and through the stands of enormous totara are there to explore, also.

This is a great location if you want to combine a rural, peaceful setting with getting some good exercise!

Self-contained motor caravanners can park for one night in the reserve parking area. There is a toilet nearby, tucked in the bush.
