We arrived in Raglan in mid-winter, planning to explore the area before heading down the coast to Kawhai. Raglan, especially on a nice sunny afternoon is a bright cheerful town, with a choice of restaurants and cafes, and a supermarket for stocking up on provisions.

We drove straight through to the holiday park, got ourselves settled in for the evening, and made some dinner. The campsite was spacious and well laid out, with on-grass parking. However, we were a little surprised that, even though we were surrounded by water, the campsite was not on the waters edge. There was a large sports and recreation area between where we were parked and the beach.

The campsite was well set up for summer holiday activity, and even featured a sound shell for live entertainment alongside the barbeque area. It's a surfing town and you can sign up for surfing lessons if so inclined. We were happy to just watch young ones displaying their skills at the beach the following day.

The facilities were well maintained, and the shower was timed at 5 minutes and required a card supplied by the office on payment of a refundable deposit of $20. Otherwise, the showers were included in the campsite cost, and you could use the card to extend the shower time for an extra 5 minutes. It all worked pretty well.

Even though we were travelling in the off season, there were still quite a few campers on site, We had a good look around the next morning before walking across the footbridge into Raglan town centre. On a nice sunny morning, this one was one of the highlights of our stay.
