RV Explorer - Oruatua Boat Ramp Reserve provides on-grass freedom camping for motor caravanners outside of the summer holiday season.
This is a peaceful and beautiful location, right on the water's edge of Lake Taupo.
We stayed overnight on the way north from Timona Park in Fielding. Apart from a small toilet, there are no facilities, but that isn't a problem when self-contained.
There's plenty of room, and there were a couple of other vans there to keep us company.
Freedom camping is only permitted from the 8th February to 19th December. It is likely to be busy over the main summer holiday period.
It's not required that you be certified self-contained
This is an excellent location. We'd happily come back again.
