The Hetana St PDS is in central Matamata, and also offers free overnight parking for self-contained motor caravanners.
We didn't notice that overnight parking was available when we first checked the public dump station. There were a few vans parked alongside the reserve, along with other cars in the parking area. It was only on driving through Matamata that we noticed motorhome parking signs pointing towards the reserve.
It's quite a good location to park overnight if you're looking around Matamata, or maybe have signed up for a Hobbiton Film Set tour the next morning. You can organise that at the Information Centre on the corner.
UPDATE: 25-April-2016
We stopped in Matamata to meet up with my daughter, and parked in the motorhome parking area and had a coffee together at the O del emz cafe across the road.
The cafe was obviously popular, and they offered an excellent range of goodies, making this another reason for stopping over here.
