The Totara Flat DOC Campsite is a large, spacious camping area located alongside the Kaereranga river.
It was closed for the winter break when we visited, but we were able to have a good look around before moving on to the Trestle View campsite - the last in the series of 8 DOC campsites along this valley.
Campers have direct access to the river, and there are some extensive walks, making this a great location for getting away from the stress of city life, and catching up on some excercise as well.
You can pay at the DOC information kiosk, or book ahead at the Kaereranga Visitor Centre.
