NORTHLAND: WHANGAREI

We called in to Ruakaka Beach Holiday Park on our way back home to Auckland. We weren't planning to stay for the night, but were still keen to check out a different location for a possible future visit.

This is a large campsite. While there a plenty of powered sites along the water's edge, there were also sites in more sheltered locations tucked away behind trees and hills. While the camp covers a large area, it was effectively divided up into a number of small areas, so it didn't give the impression of being huge.

It was in the middle of winter, but there were still quite a few campers scattered around the park, including a couple that we'd only just met earlier that afternoon at the Marsden Cove marina. The facilities that we had a look at appeared to be in process of being prepared for re-painting, but were otherwise clean and perfectly functional.

Overall, it looked to be a good location to stay -  and a great place to bring a family of young children, who would have a ball exploring the park.
