Children's playground near the parking area
Ruawai is a small country town just south of Dargaville and sited alongside the Kaipara harbour. The wharf carpark is a large metaled area adjacent to a reserve that has clean toilets, picnic tables, and a childrens playground nearby.
Self-contained motor caravanners are welcome to park overnight, and we called in to check it out.
Overall we were pleasantly surprised as we didn't expect a wharf parking area to be such an attractive option. But, with the reserve, the playground, and being just a short walk from the town centre, stopping over in Ruawai well worth considering.
For keen fishermen travelling with a boat, there's a boat ramp, and I've been told that the fishing in the harbour is really good.
There are restaurants and a nice cafe in town. The locals are welcoming. So, if you'd like to experience life in a small country town, away from all tourist activity, spend a night or two in Ruawai.
