Cooney Reserve is a really nice, sheltered location on the Omokoroa peninsula where self-contained motor caravanners can freedom camp.
We called in late on an early spring afternoon. While we didn't stay overnight, it would be a great place to do that. There's a nice walkway along the beach and through the reserve. There is good all-weather parking, and it should be quiet and well away from any road noise.
