BAY OF PLENTY: ROTORUA

We were driving along the shoreline of lake Rotoma on the way to Rotorua, and decided to pull into a parking area on the side of the lake.

The beach included a boat ramp, and the view out over the lake was stunning on a clear sunny afternoon. We were thinking that this would make a great location for overnight parking, when we noticed that Merge Lodge Caravan Park was right next door. While that makes it unlikely that the parking area would every allow free overnight parking, we could see that it did make the caravan park a nice location to stay.

Unfortunately, we were running late, and didn't have time to check out their facilities. It looked from the outside to be one of the older style caravan parks. I imagine it would be very good for motor caravanners who were keen on fishing and had a boat.
